Riviersonderend is a beautiful river canyon running almost parallel to one of South Africa’s most technical canyons, Suicide Gorge. In contrast, Riviersonderend offers a milder, more relaxed canyoning experience, making it ideal for families, first-time canyoners, and adventurous beginners looking to explore nature in a fun and accessible way. The experience begins with a gentle hike that allows you to warm up and settle into the landscape before entering the canyon itself. Once inside, the scenery becomes truly special — lush, sculpted rock formations, flowing water, and natural pools that feel almost otherworldly. The canyon journey covers approximately 5 km, moving through shallow and deep water, along the riverbed, and over smooth rock sections. The route includes one short rope-assisted descent into a pool, as well as a few optional small jumps into clear, refreshing water. No previous canyoning experience is required, and all technical sections are guided and managed for safety.
